In Memory

Eric Mendel

Eric Mendel

Eric Mendel, AKA Slippery, the Big E, and Shylock passed to eternal life on April 5, 2022, holding his daughters hand.  Beloved father and dad to Erica Mendel, she watched his face in amazement as he was shown the kingdom of God and the faces of all His angels.

Born in Albany, NY to Herman and Annette Mendel, he was the third of nine children which motivated him to compete to WIN at everything he attempted.  He was a straight A student, delivered newspapers, a little league pitcher and golf caddy all before he left home to work in the restaurant business.

Leaving Albany he joined his brother in sunny Newport Beach, CA where he enjoyed many a splendid thing.  His favorites were golfing with the tremendous amount of friends he garnered over the years, going to Angel baseball games, fixing up cool cars, managing various food services and bars and becoming a realtor.  He loved Frank Sinatra and could be heard singing old blue eyes songs as he was slinging drinks and cracking jokes.  He also dabbled as a Mr Fix-it for many Orange County homeowners, he just loved helping people.

His sense of humor won the hearts of many a man and women, young and old, and his stories and jokes are still being repeated today... even joking with the very doctors, nurses, EMT and ER staff that strived to save his life and in the end, make him comfortable.

His biggest, best, most amazing accomplishment is his daughter Erica.  He is also survived by his father Herman Mendel, Albany NY, sisters Susan Barger, M Theresa Granville (Paul) and Maureen Ferrucci, brothers Mark Mendel (Janice), Gary Mendel, Greg Mendel, and Matthew Mendel (Fannia).  He was predeceased by his mother Annette Mendel (1997), and his sister Maryanne Slauson (2010).

A Celebration of Life was held at the Costa Mesa Golf Course clubhouse on April 25th.

In lieu of flowers, it is the family's wish that donations be made to the Cancer Research & Life Foundation at CRLfoundation.com.  With the generous GOFUNDME donations and the Foundations help, he was so very close to turning this genetic disease around.
